GST services: registration, returns, reconciliation and notices

Goods and Services Tax compliance for traders, manufacturers, service providers and professionals, from registration to monthly returns, annual returns and replies to notices. GST is a separate law with its own portal and deadlines, and it is handled as a separate service.

Scope

What the work covers

GST runs on monthly and quarterly cycles, and almost every figure is now cross-checked automatically: your sales against what customers claim, your input tax credit against what suppliers report, and your returns against each other. Most GST problems come from small differences left unresolved for too long.

The work is organised around a monthly routine that keeps the books, returns and portal data in agreement, so that annual returns and any departmental query can be answered from records already prepared.

  • New GST registration, amendments, cancellation and revocation of cancellation
  • Monthly GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, and quarterly filing under the QRMP scheme
  • Composition scheme: eligibility, CMP-08 and annual return
  • Input tax credit reconciliation with GSTR-2B and actions in the Invoice Management System
  • Letter of Undertaking (LUT) for exports of goods and services, and refund claims
  • E-invoicing and e-way bill set-up and review
  • Annual return GSTR-9 and reconciliation statement GSTR-9C
  • Replies to notices and intimations such as ASMT-10, DRC-01B and DRC-01C, and support in departmental audits
  • Corrections through GSTR-1A and amendments in later returns

Approach

How the work is done

Set up correctly

Registration details, HSN and SAC codes, invoice formats and e-invoicing requirements are checked at the start, because errors here repeat in every return.

Monthly routine

Sales and purchase registers are closed, reconciled with GSTR-1, IMS and GSTR-2B, and returns are filed on reconciled figures before the due dates.

Year-end

Monthly reconciliations roll up into GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C, with differences between books and returns explained.

Notices

Any intimation or notice is answered with the reconciliation and documents for the period, point by point.

Getting started

Records to keep ready

  • GST portal login, or registration certificate and GSTIN details
  • Sales and purchase registers from the accounting software
  • Copies of invoices, debit and credit notes, and import documents
  • Bank statements, for reconciling receipts and payments
  • Any notices or intimations received

Background

GST reconciliation is done with Python-based matching built for Indian GST data, so purchase registers are matched invoice by invoice with GSTR-2B rather than by totals, and every exception is reviewed by a chartered accountant. See experience and expertise.

Fees

Fees depend on the scope of work, the volume and condition of records and the time required, and are confirmed in writing in an engagement letter before work begins.

Questions about GST services

When is GST registration mandatory?

Registration is generally required when aggregate turnover in a year exceeds ₹40 lakh for suppliers of goods or ₹20 lakh for suppliers of services in Maharashtra. Some businesses must register regardless of turnover, for example those making inter-state supplies of goods or selling goods through e-commerce operators.

What is the QRMP scheme?

Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to ₹5 crore can file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B quarterly while paying tax monthly. Invoices can be uploaded monthly through the Invoice Furnishing Facility so that customers get credit on time.

Do exporters need to pay GST?

Exports of goods and services are zero-rated. Most exporters furnish a Letter of Undertaking (LUT) each year and export without paying IGST, and can claim a refund of unutilised input tax credit.

What should I do if I receive a GST notice?

Check the form, period and response date, and compare the figures in the notice with your books and returns. A reply supported by a reconciliation and documents often settles the matter. Where tax is genuinely short-paid, paying it with interest before the notice escalates limits further consequences.
